BEWARE:2004 Camry Bumper Problems

If you have a 2004 Camry, drive your car extra carefully, don't EVER parallel park on the street, or park in a place you could accidentally bump or be bumped. Just bought a 2004 Camry LE with 5spd, 4 cyl, & curtain air bags without any other frills.Had to order it direct from Japan which took 3 mos. I was parked in a parking lot and rolled back

12" and bumped an unoccupied car, and it caused $500 damage to my rear bumper ( no damage to the other older car ). The car was specifically chosen for the curtain airbags. It certainly could afford better protection in a serious crash, but zero help for the less than 5mph impact and cause wallet hemorrhage in this situation. So much for the recycled plastic bumper covers. Does anyone know the email address of Fujio Cho, President of Toyota, Japan? I would like to send him an email to thank him personally for making my custom Camry in Japan. I also want to ask him to please remake the bumper covers for the 2004 Camrys without using the recycled plastic and issue a recall for them. A pair of really tough bumper covers painted silver and gratis would be great! We need the old fashioned tough bumpers of years past. It's like you take one step forward (curtain air bags) and two steps backward (recycled plastic bumper covers that are like artist "foamcore").

Canadian regulations speify a tougher bumper. The standard is higher here. Maybe you should have gotten yours here (all Camrys sold in Canada are made in Japan)

Not any more. ALL Camrys from 2004 are made in Georgetown, Kentucky for the Canadian market. Prior to 2004, most, not all were from Japan. Times change.

I have a 1976 Mercury Grand Marquis. It weighs 6500 pounds. My bumpers are chromed steel with two 2" solid rubber bangers. Old bumpers rock. But, it doesn't have curtain airbags.

IF THE VIN NUMBER STARTS WITH JT ITS A JAPANESSE CAMRY , IF STARTS WITH 4T1BE32 ITS A GEORGTOWN CAR. YOU THINK THAT PRESIDENT OF TMS WILL POST HIS E E MAIL ADDRESS ON THE WEB OR ANYWHERE?
