Getting the old hinge pin out is the most difficult part of the whole deal. A close second is re-aligning the door :)

To get the old pins out, your best tool is probably an air hammer, a good one, and plenty of air. if you don't have one or yours is too weak, maybe you could drive to a shop that has professional tools and ask them to pop the pins half way out... half way, so you can still drive home without a door falling off :D

You can try replacing the pins with new, which helps in some cases. Sometimes however the hinges themselves are worn, and the only remedy is oversized hinge pins. You will need to drill the hinges to make room for the bigger pins.

What about one of those tools at eastwood.com?

I have heard of HEAT followed by cold water which is probably not good for the temper of the metal nor the paint. ;-) Or substitute oil for the water. Watch out for the fumes though.

Geeez/ I wonder where you get over-size pins? The problem is , and this must be typical. the door drops down a bit when you open it. Must be that old devil gravity. they look like aluminum. Are they bushed with anything or can one bush them out. maybe brass or bronze.

sells the oversize pins( 1st &2nd oversize) and I think the reamer tool needed.

You want to fix your original hinges or find a good original set THE AFTERMARKET ONES WILL BREAK.

I use an air hammer with a ground down tip that fits thru the hole, for the ghias you can remove the complete hinge to work on it, or take them to a shop to re-pin
