There was a transmission problem that mostly affected certain 3.2 V6 models from '99 to '03. Honda extended the transmission warranty to 7 years/100K miles on those models, and has even displayed willingness to cover models that might be outside the list. TSB 02-027 covers this issue.
Most of the affected vehicles should have been dealt with by now. To confirm that your intended car has, call your local dealer with the VIN and ask if that car has been in for any transmission work.
The most common source of problems with all Honda automatics is the use of non-Honda ATF, which causes harsh, jerky shifting. It doens't do any damage in the short term, but you won't like the shift action.

Acura replaced the transmission in my 2003 TL Type S under warranty about 6 months after the transmission service upgrade.
