timing belt

can anyone tell me what the cost of replacing a timing belt in an A4 will cost me in Australia..... have been told it could be as much as $1800 AUD... is this an accurate quote for Australia

It will depend on what age the car is and what engine! The 1.8/1.8T engines upto about 1998 need modified tensioners unless they have already been fitted.

I.

It's an all day affair in terms of labour. If you look online, the parts kit is US$200-300. Sprinkle in shop/dealer profit to taste. Here in the US, it costs about $1000-1200. So your quoted price seems close to the mark.

Cheers,

You may want to look for an Audi specialist mechanic. On my car, '96 S6, my local guy charged 3.5 hours of labour for a timing belt/water pump/tentioner change where the local dealer (stealer!) quoted 6 hours labour plus higher price for parts for the same job.

I paid CDN$710, approx US$540.
