UK A6 2.6 77,000 mile service

Hi, 77k service due soon, A6 2.6 N reg (FSH.all same local main dealer) How much would I expect to have to pay from main dealer? thats also to include a cam belt change & are the independents that much cheaper & as good? Had the car 10 months from Main Dealer came with full service & 12 month MOT so not spent anything on it yet, just getting prepared to be stung! Any advice much appreciated.

If you got it from a main dealer you might well have a 12 month warranty on it -I got that when I bought my wife's A4 Avant s/h from a main dealer. Paid dividends as well, had to have a new steering rack and some suspension arms etc during the first 12 months.

Find out if you did get a warranty & if so it'd make sense to take the car back to the main dealer for this service. After that there are some good independents around & they charge a LOT less/hour than the dealers. If you tell us where you are in the country someone might flag one or two up for you. There is one near Weybridge in Surrey called "Wheelbase"

if that's any help.

Otherwise, for a cambelt change & an 80K service I would not expect to see much change out of £7-£800 - maybe more.

Hello.

I've got a P reg version of the same with about the same mileage. I use an independent specialist to save many £'s. I was advised to change the cam belt at 60k which cost £150 and a normal service costs me about the same. Had I got this at a main dealer then I would have to re-mortgage the house. It really depends on whether you need that Audi stamp in the book or not.

Thanks for that guys, it does have a 12 month Audi warranty & will need service 10 months into that so it just may be worth getting it at the main dealer, but at double the price I hope they do find things that need replacing under warranty. I am from Gwynedd N.Wales & there is a well known (in the area) VW/Audi specialist, AVW in Caernarfon, they are fairly expensive but no doubt cheaper than MD's I used to take my Golf GTI mk 2 there & they charged £24 an hour, so its make my mind up time over the next few days as to who gets to fleece me! Cheers, Rog.
