1st gear seems a bit whinny and lack in power. At times it will shift hard between 1st and 2nd and others it shifts fine. The hard shifts seem to occur more fequently when accelerating from a stop letting off the gas some, (1000 to 1500 rpms) then trying to accelerate again. The hard shift can occur though with normal acceleration also. I turned the A/C off and still get the same results. The truck has 31000 miles. Should I get this in to have the transmision checked?

There is a bulletin that seems to match your symptoms....the fix is replacing a pressure control solenoid and reflashing the pcm. You might want to take it in and see if this bulletin actually pertains to what you are experiencing.
