Over the last 2 years my '98 V40 2.0T has developed a problem with the accelerator - usual service garage (an independent specialist, normally very good compared to the incompetence of the dealership I used to go to) can't find the cause.
Particularly noticable in 1st and 2nd, what happens is that on change-up if I depress the clutch and lift off the accelerator in the normal synchronised way the engine continues to rev as if I still had my foot on the accelerator. If I lift off the accelerator slightly before depressing the clutch this doesn't happen. I haven't noticed this happening on changeup from 3rd or 4th, but it is likely that the car isn't under quite as heavy acceleration during these shifts.
It also seems to occur most often in the 5 minutes after initially starting the car, but I'll have to make a mental note to specifically look out for the problem at the end or midpoints of longer journeys.
Any clues as to what's causing it? Accelerator cable needs replacing?
