Fuel Gauge Wandering on 99 3500 Van....

Apr 21, 2004 4 Replies

Hi All,

I've got a 99 Express Van 3500....The fuel gauge seems fine from a full tank down to a 1/4 tank or so and then it starts to wander around. It will change anywhere from full to empty and keeps wandering until I fill up again.

I'm thinking about going after the sending unit in the tank, but was wondering if anyone here has ever seen this before ???

Thanks for any Ideas....

I have a '03 Silverado with a guage that is never correct. I ran out of gas twice with more than a quarter showing on the guage. GM blames poor quality gas. They have been having problems with their gas guages for several years.

My 91 Blazer does exactly the same thing. I never trust it below 1/4 tank. In fact I usually just use the trip meter to keep an eye on how far I have gone. I get about 400 miles on a tank so I always fill up around 300-350 miles.

My 94 S-10 does the same thing. Once it hits 1/4 it starts to wander, and I'd better be looking for a gas station 'cause I'm on borrowed time.

My trip meter has been my "gas gauge" for 2 years now.

My boss does that, 700 miles to a tank. Last 2-300 miles w/ the gas check light on. '95 1500 ram...
