Interior light

I have a '99 Tahoe and the interior light has started staying on except when I press the dome override button.

I heard a clicking noise coming from under the dash.

Any ideas?

I've got the same problem with a '99 Suburban. I took it to a dealership, but they couldn't get the thing to act up. It seems that if you use the override button for a long time (months at a time), it starts to act normal again.

If anyone has any suggestions for this problem, I would appreciate knowing also.

Thanks, Chris

I haven't tried that. I had to replace them on my '94 Silverado, though. I will check them and report findings.

Thanks Bobo. I did do some more research and found that when I lock and unlock the doors the interior lights flicker. So, it must have something to do with the lock switch. ???

It is a 4-door. I will try what you said and report findings. These things can be soooooo anoying. I could continue to use the dome override button but I want everything to WORK properly.

The door ajar switches are fairly inexpensive. I'll start with them then move on to the lock/unlock switch if I have to. I'm sure those switches aren't inexpensive. I noticed the back doors have the old style metal switches. I'd say they should use those everywhere since they are probably more rigid than the stupid plastic ones. GM is like everyone else.....cutting costs on every corner..... whether it jeapordizes quality or not. Geez!!

Thanks again, M D Phillips

I'll report my progress.

That clicking noise is prolly a relay. It might be sticking. Mike

I still haven't found the cause. I'm still using override button.

Is this relay replaceable? Where is it located??

They usually just plug in. Find the source of the clicking. If you put your finger on it you can feel it too. I may just need a little mechanical agitation to free it up. Mike

Thanks Mike. I will attempt to find it. I'm going to call my dealer and see if they have any ideas, too.

the clicking is either the interior light relay, or the RKE module, you either have one or the other.. this is normal when the lights go off and on... you have to find why they want to be on.. the fact that they go off using the override button tells you right there that the module(whichever one it is) is ok.. the overide switch is between that module and the door switches...
