Hey, I have a question, I just changed the universal joints in my truck, and now that the vibration is gone, the fuel mileage has gone up, and I am just speculating, but do you think in a very bad scenario, the engine knock sensor could have sensed this vibration and retarded the timing because of it? Let me remind you that it was so bad that it felt like I was driving over rumble strips on the side of the free way all the time.

You didnt say what year it is but....It seams possible. What year is it? Also I dont think a knock sensor whould see a vibration as knock but I guess its possible. Maybe it was just the binding of the joints that hurt your mileage, sounds like it was *very* bad.
Oh yea, it was. Wasnt even the U Joints, it was the CV Joints. I didnt know you could grease them, truck sat for a year anyway. Its also a 97.I'm getting almost 160 miles on a half tank now rather than 100. Fuel milage on that little thing isnt the greatest, I get the same on my 99 Silverado C/K type, and is a V8
I just turned 100k on my 97 S-10 and am getting 20mpg (about 310 miles per tank)
Todd, if you read the post carefully you will have noticed that I said I have a 99 C/K Series Silverado also with a 5.7 liter, and my S-10 gets about the same milage as my Silverado. Sad but true. you also have an S-10? I get around 300 something miles to a tank on my S-10 if I run it in the red.
