3.0V6 codes 12 and 21

Hello All:

Well, it has been that kind of Holiday for me...EVERYTHING is breaking, and I am having a hard time keeping up. From my dryer to my plumbing to a broken irrigation pipe, everything is breaking!

So, my LeBaron is not immune to this. My wife says the Check Engine light is on. I checked the codes: 12 and 21. The car is a 3.0V6 with 79K miles. Any advice?

I looked and the codes are 02 sensor shorted, so what is recommended? Should I replace the 02 sensor, or consult a mechanic? I have heard that the 02 sensors seem to 'weld' themselves in place, so any advice on replacing these is appreciated! Happy New Year to all! Bill

Replace the O2 sensor. You will need to buy or rent a O2 sensor socket that has a slit on the side for the wires. Use pleanty of liquid wrench and make sure the engine is cold when you try to unscrew it. Don't use an impact wrench. If need be use a breaker bar with the socket, try to just nudge it a bit, spray liquid wrench and repeat.

When you install the new part, make sure the threads have antiseize compound. Most new parts come with it, but chek. Do NOT overtighten.
