I'll be the pauses between the codes work out to
1-2---3-7---5-5 Thats 12, 37, 55. 12 is "start of codes" and 55 is "end of codes"; 37 is37 Torque converter unlock circuit open or shorted, A-413 4-speed auto
according to my code sheet. So... it's telling you that the control for the lockup torque converter isn't working right. Are you sure you've only got first gear, or is it possible you've only got second? That would be consistent with it going into "limp-home" mode.
joe? thanks for your response. could you please help me a little more? what steps do i need to take to fix this problem? approx. cost?
Either get a factory service manual (not Chilton's, not Haynes, factory) or talk to a mechanic. From here, I'd have to start tracing wires and do a real diagnosis -- it could be anything from a loose connector that would take 30 seconds to reseat to (if the solenoid is internal to the trans; I don't know) something requiring pulling the transmission out. So cost could be anything from "virtually 0" to "buy a new car".
