Help me prepare for the worst

Last night our '02 300M was difficult to start, and when it did start the Check Engine light was on.

The error codes were:

P0340 camshaft position sensor error P0335 crankshaft position sensor error

I have an appointment to take the car to the dealer in the morning (have to leave it all day), and they say that I could be up for $70 diagnosis work before anything else can be decided.

What is the possible cause, and how much could it end up costing?

enough to make you wish you had bought a '79 Cordova, depollutionized.

In fact it cost me only the $100 deductible on my 7yr/70Kmiles extended powertrain warranty (for which I had paid nothing -- a freebie to help them move the '02 models to make way for the '03 models). The camshaft position sensor had gone bad; what that would have cost to replace otherwise I have no idea.
