Citroen AX starting problem...

Hi Guys, got an intermittent starting problem on my daughters 1992 1.1 AX. The car will sometimes start first time, but when it plays up the starter motor turns over but there is no ignition. This can happen at the first start in the morning or just as likely after getting back in the car when hot later in the day, the car will push start every time by the way. New items fitted to try and cure were : new leads , rotor arm , distributor cap and spark plugs. The starter spins over fast enough for as long as you like but no go when it's in that mood. The manual choke works by the look of it and when the car is acting up you can smell fuel at the back of the car. Any top tips from former owners would be appreciated, thanks for your time.

Regards,

Steve de Sainte Croix. Lincolnshire , England.

If it push starts but wont start with the key, your ignition switch is bad and not giving power to the ignition when the key is on the start position.
