( snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.co.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

The French will.

It's an utter bastard of a job, btw.

First of all you have to be a resident to register a car in France.

It depends on what classic car you want to register. The main thing you have to do is get a certificate of conformity. There are quite a lot of French groups of classic UK cars and they may very well be able to help you get the certificate. Also the DRIRE will probably have a lot of information about all sorts of classic cars, and depending on the manufacturer you may still be able to get a certificate from them.

After that it is all fairly straight forward - change the headlamps, get a controle technique(MOT) submit numerous forms forms to the prefecture, who will tell you what is needed, and pay your fee.

Then wait for the paperwork to be processed, meanwhile you can insure and use the car. When the paperwork is sorted you go and pay for your carte gris (tax certificate based on a multiple of horsepower - but a one off payment, not annual) buy the new number plates and away you go
