First question is, can you weld, preferable with Mig, otherwise either Gas [O/A] or Arc? If not I would suggest you first port of call is a local college to see if they do any evening courses in welding (failing that join the relevant club for the car and ask around for someone local who can show / teach you), there are books but like many things you need to do rather than read.
