Supplying a car for filming.

The club I belong to get quite a few requests for cars to be used in filming.

What I've noticed over the years is the fee being offered gets lower and lower. Latest one is for car plus driver for what they say will only be a couple of hours, and are offering 100 quid.

Now the agreed daily rate for an extra is 85 quid. Driving is a skill so adds 25 quid. Plus probably travel expenses.

Most of these sort of productions are period, so expect a car to be in the condition you'd expect then - ie very good. How much would anyone here expect to pay to hire a car for a day?

There are companies that hire out classic cars - see the credits at the end of one of the antiques programmes (It might be Antiques Road Trip or something like that, but it isn't something I have watched except by accident).

I bet they charge a lot more than 100 quid. Your club should reply accordingly.

I also remember some advice in this group some years ago to make sure that the contract states that nobody except you drives your car. Otherwise it gets treated as just another prop, and you don't get it back in the condition in which it started out.

Yes - seem to remember one having the more popular classics for hire. But doubt they keep every make and model. In this case, they wanted a specific model for a dramatised reconstruction.

At one time, a production would use a specialist to source the cars. One of the better known being Action Cars. They would also supply a driver, and appropriate number plates.

The club don't actually get involved - just pass on the info to members. Who often seem to get star struck by the whole idea. ;-)

Certainly wouldn't let an actor near mine unless I was there. They all smoke and spill coffee everywhere. ;-)
