Well, first of all there was 196 results and even though that is small, if it happened to you, you'd be a tad ticked :)

I can remember the time my mother had her steering column snap on her at 40 mph...1 year in the hospital...Had to take the same pos as a replacement car and then 5 years later had to junk it out...

Of course, that was a ford :)

So, go buy a POS GM. They have the highest recall rate than ALL other manufacturers, COMBINED! In 1978, the Cadillac dealer I was working at, had a recall on 1962 Cadillacs! Plus, remember, they'll gladly rip you off, like they did when they put cheap Chebby engines in Oldsmopiles, and charged their "customers" for the higher priced engine.

gee, 15 bad balljoints from a poor batch from the outsourced suspension supplier. out of 600,000 or more sold............ which is a .000025 % failure rate.......

I don't know what they were like, but I know they had a lot of trouble with the ones put in the Olds back in '78. There was one that lived in our shop more than it did with it's owner.

The owner should have been happy. That was the late 70s/early 80s Olds/Cadillac diesel based on the Oldsmobile 350 CID gas engine. The only time it didn't puke filthy black engine oil all over the owner's driveway or garage was when it was at SOMEONE ELSE'S shop. The oil spots in our driveway outlasted the 79 Cadillac Eldorado that caused them. Unfortunately ours never spent a lot of time at someone else's shop, because I was able to keep it running. A water separator ahead of the fuel filter helped, but mainly what it took was changing that big fuel filter at 5,000 mile intervals instead of the factory-recommended

24,000. When it started to run badly, I'd go and plunk down the cash for a new filter, and it would run just fine again (or as well as it ever did...that car was S-L-O-W!)

He's talking about a diesel. One big multi-output injector pump, driven off the camshaft, mounted near where the carburetor is on a gasoline V8. Keep it clean (change the fuel filter and don't let water or fungus get to it) and it lasted just fine. Ignore it and let crap get into it and you were into four figures' worth to replace it.
