Just got the van. Doesn't shift into 3rd. until about 50 MPH, downshifts into 2nd. at about 35.
Fluid at correct level and clean. Engine runs fine. For a full-size van it has lots of acceleration !!
Thanks for your help in advance.

Check the detent cable adjustment.

Thanks, Ken.
How does the detent cable go out of factory adjustment assuming the transmission has never been removed? What adjustment spec. do you recommend?

.
FIXED !!
The detent cable pivot point at the transmission was stuck--worked it free with my hand (no solvents or lubes) and the van shift like brand new !!!
Thanks again for your help--it was right on the money !!!

I've had to work this weekend and haven't had time to pull out the manual. (That and I just get lucky every once in a while.) My Dakota was acting like your van and I had a transmission tech adjust the detent cable with results like yours.
