my wife has got a 2003 panda what is the recommended mileage for changing the timing belt?

5 years or 50,000 miles is now a commonly accepted compromise.

In the 80s and 90s Fiat would recommend 36K miles or 3 years. In the

2000's 72K miles became a common manufacturer recommendation but some makes of cars failed to get to that sort of mileage and the manufacturers started to back off the mileage and time recommendations.

Back in the 80/90s spark plugs would have been replaced every 6,000 and then 10,000 miles. Now some only change them at up to 100K miles.
