I had this problem fixed free under Ford Campaign 00M12. I took my 2000 Mecury Moutaineer to my private car repair dealer to have him fix this problem. He told me to take it to a Ford dealer to have it repaired for no charge. ( snipped-for-privacy@comcast.net) This also covers Explorers.
