Temperature stuck at cold

I missed the complaints of cost. That's why I couldn't understand the reluctance.

Hell no. By all mean, if you have to take it to a shop, expect an increase in cost of repairs. There are certain overhead expenses that aren't negotiable, in addition to wages for the service tech. I know this part all too well.

There are ever so many motors on the market that require special bleeeding procedures for the cooling system. Still others that are just a b*tch to bleed. We have an "air lift" at our shop that really helps (this is a device that applies vacuum to the cooling system and then allows the vacuum to draw coolant into the motor). Even these aren't fool proof.

Modern powerplants are much different from those of my youth. They are less able to withstand abnormal heat loads, indeed, they are less able to withstand any loads (thermal or mechanical) they weren't designed for than older motors. It becomes important to realize that even something as simple as a thermostat change can result in engine damage if something is overlooked...

If anyone reading this does something wrong, it wont affect my menu or debt schedule.... it can, however, really make their day bad. All I want to do is make folks see that, while changing the thermostat itself may only take 15 minutes, returning the vehicle to service goes beyond simply turning a few bolts left and then turning them right again. The opera ain't over until the fat lady sings... it's my job to make sure she don't sing off key.

Our workload on 05s is increasing... even after nearly 40 years, I spend more and more time accessing service manuals....

And you see how many times I've told people to get a manual... RTFM is pretty much standard fare, and if you can't do it by the manual, let Jim do it.
