mustangs messed up please help

i have a 97 mustang. i recently changed my plug wires but i got 2 of them mixed up i started the car it ran very rough so i turned it off and checked the wires, so i put the in the right place and now the car starts fine but it idles not real bad but worse then before and when i get up to about 50mph the car starts making a popping sound. today i hit the gas a little hard and something popped under the hood and the engine light came on. i got a code reader and it says 1. camshaft position sensor and 2. bank 1 circuit malfunction. now just replacing the sensor i don?t think is going to help. anyone know what the problem could be? appreciate any help.

Maddvirus,

What size engine do you have? Have you checked all the plugs to make sure it wasnt a plug that popped out of the cylinder head? It sounds like it might actually be back firing into the intake, and your computer caught it. Recheck your plug wires. Verify you have them on correct.

Just how much do you know about troubleshooting wiring issues? If you arent very good at it, I would take your car to a shop and have a qualified tech look at your car, he would be able to spot if something looks amiss in the wiring or anything like that.
