99 Taurus obd error code reads 0340, camshaft position A circuit sensor malfunction. Where is this sensor and must it be replaced?

It's on the rear of the motor (to the right if you are looking from the front)centered between the heads. The drive goes into the former distributor hole. Wear in the drive usually causes damage to the sensor and in turn damage to the drive (I believe the drive is called the synchronizer asy.) You'll likely need to replace both pieces, sensor and synchro.
