1981 f150 460 swap?

Looking throught the classifieds today i found a 1981 f150 step side

4x4 with 400 4spd. the truck has a bad clutch and needs a new one. i know that the 400 and the 460 use the same transmission, but will the 4spd hold the power of the 460. Also how hard will it be to put a 460 in this truck and what parts will i need. the 460 i have is out of a 73 thunderbird with a set of 68 heads on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The transmission for the 400 will work fine with a 460. Chances are the exact same transmission was used behind both engines. You will need a truck oil pan and oil pickup tube for that truck pan. You may need different 460 truck motor mounts, they could be the same as the

400's. Some of your accessories (alternator, air-conditioning compressor etc.) and their brackets might need some modification.

Your decades old car application engine and water pump may not have outlets in the same places as your existing radiator and hoses....

Hope this helps, and good luck with your project.

It should be a NP435 if it has the old 4 speed "granny gear" tranny and it is up to the task.
