91 Bronco update

This is the update on the POS Bronco 2 - 2.9 L fiasco from a couple of weeks ago. It turned out to be the fly wheel completely shot. The reason I never saw any broken bolts or parts in the inspection plate area was because It was a perfect ripout of the flywheel - about a 3" hole and all the bolts to the crank and to the tranny were intact. Since I already had the front end opened up (swearing it was the timing chain) I went ahead and replaced the timing chain, gears, water pump, etc.

13 hours yesterday will set the timing this evening. It started right up (a bit more tapping at first - naturally) but very sluggish and no power. I'm hoping that's just the timing. Any other suggestions?

Thanks - Jim

Since you were just there, could be valve timing off a tooth or two

Once I removed the chain, I never turned the crank or cam. The new gears locked onto each shaft and the chain and tensioner were still aligned. I suppose a ° or two might be affected. Will try it this evening. Thanks for the reply.

Timing was about 5° off - specs call for 10° BTDC. Runs like a champ. I think she's going to sell it now - oh well - thanks for everyone's help.
