2 1/4 petrol engine military

after welding the chassis etc etc the lightweight was near (months) completion. the engine then seized. got a military lump but it has a hole milled in the front on the block near the thermostat housing. its cut for 3 bolts and looking down you can see the timing chain. i can't fiond anyone who knows what it was for. I've made a plate up for it. be nice to know what it was. on the civvy engine that came out the ledge doesn't even exist. but the civvy is years old with the timing mark on the fly wheel and the military has the timing marks on the front.

Oil filler.

The FFR used a large alternator mounted at the front RH where the standard oil filler was and a replacement spot was needed for filling.

Thankyou very much. a blanking plate should be ok.
