Is there any known faults/ weak points to a '94 F350 CC 4x4 7.3td w/ 5spd? I am going to look at one with aprox 340,000 kms on it and just want to know if theres anything specific I should be looking at that may be a know sore spot on these rigs. I'm not very familiar with Fords in general and have never driven a 6.9 or 7.3td diesel either.
Any input is appreciated Thanks

Get some fleetguard coolant test strips and test the coolant for presence of dca4/fw16 coolant additives. If the level isn't right, you could have problems with pinholes in the water jacket called cavitation.

You did mean "pinholes caused "BY" cavitation, didn't you?

I drive an F350 with a 7.3 Turbo IDI. I have had no problems other than transmission issues. The E4OD tranny is a poor excuse for a power train. Ford made a mistake and now it's tough to fix it. I've gone through 2 transmissions now and I tow a considerable amount.
The last rebuild saw changes to the seals, a new shift board, new clutches and a heavy duty torque convertor. They also suggested other improvements that were done as well. I put in the biggest cooler I could find and I have no problems to date.
I can tell you that the next time I have a tranny problem, it's a six speed for sure.
Love the power plant. Mine will probably need an overhaul over the next 100- 200K but the power is still there!
If the price is right and everything looks ok with respect to the drive train, buy it!

Thanks, this truck is south of Calgary in Alberta on a ranch. So has likely seen considerable duty already. I will test the coolant too. Thanks again.
