Issue with the accelerator pump on 79 F100 5.8M 2BBL Autolite 2150 carburetor (2023 Update)

79 F100 5.8M 2BBL Autolite 2150.

Motor stalls as soon as gas pedal is depressed.

The carb was just rebuilt.

Accelerator pump appears to be pumping fuel back into the bowl instead of the intake manifold causing the engine to stgarve and die.

Ideas?

It sounds like you may have an issue with the accelerator pump on your 79 F100 5.8M 2BBL Autolite 2150 carburetor. Here are a few things to check that could be causing the problem:

  1. Check the accelerator pump linkage: Make sure that the linkage connecting the accelerator pedal to the carburetor is properly adjusted and functioning correctly. If the linkage is not working correctly, the accelerator pump may not be engaging properly.
  2. Check the accelerator pump diaphragm: Make sure that the diaphragm inside the accelerator pump is not damaged or leaking. If the diaphragm is damaged, it will not be able to properly pump fuel into the intake manifold.
  3. Check the accelerator pump nozzle: Make sure that the nozzle on the accelerator pump is not clogged or damaged. If the nozzle is clogged, fuel will not be able to properly flow into the intake manifold.
  4. Check the accelerator pump timing: Make sure that the accelerator pump is engaging at the correct time. If the pump is engaging too early or too late, it will not be able to properly supply fuel to the engine.
  5. Check the accelerator pump cam: Make sure that the accelerator pump cam is properly installed and not worn out. If the cam is worn out, the accelerator pump will not be able to properly engage.
  6. Check the gasket and seal: Make sure that all gasket and seals are properly installed and not leaking. Leaks can cause vacuum issues and affect the accelerator pump.

If you are unable to resolve the issue by checking these items, it may be best to take the vehicle to a qualified mechanic for further diagnosis. Remember that many of these issues can be due to the rebuild of the carburetor, it's important to check that all the components are properly installed and adjusted.
