Diesel fuel in coolant?

I am looking to purchase a used PSD, and have found one that is very clean, runs great etc., but the owner told me that he put diesel fuel in with the coolant to lubricate the water pump, and that diesel fuel in the radiator helps with cooling?

I have never heard of this....does this seem correct? I noticed the seperation in the coolant reserve tank, and asked the question.

I've no experience with this but I wouldn't think it would hurt anything. Whether it helps or not is debateable. Personally I wouldn't do it. I would definately check that the fluid you see in the coolant tank is fuel and not oil. It may be that the seller is trying to hide a leaking head gasket or cracked head.

On a similar note. Whenever I've bought something from someone who has a home made remedy for something I've found other things too. Things like cut up wires under the dash to install a stereo or CB, or replacement parts that were "made" to fit. Not a big deal but annoying when you are trying to make things right.

It'll eat the hell out of the hoses. Not to mention the low boiling point and the fact that it doesn't mix with water. Stupid Idea. You'll need a complete chemical flush, THEN all new hoses.

sounds to me like a cavitating block, and he thinks you are stupid enough to believe him. i have owned and driven diesels for 30 years, and have NEVER heard of such a line of bullscrap as lubricating the water pump berrings with fuel.

Not a good idea to me .It sounds to me like a bad injector cup . I can't tell you how much it cost to replace cups . I replaced my own .
