F- 250 trans ?

I just bought a f250 to fiddle faddle with and actually got it running cleaned it up and installed a sterio. My question is that it has a 4 speed with a 351 engine 8 cylynder or 5.1 what ever you want to call it, anyway I was wondering if by some chance I could exchange the 4 for 5 speed trans since the the engine can handle it, and if so what's the going price for one. It will be pulling a Bass boat in the spring and travling 50 to 100 miles a weekend.

There are 3 5-speeds, not counting the ranger ones. First, 302's use a Mazda 5-speed. That will fit your engine but it's wimpy. Second, 351's and 300's use a ZF 5-speed. That is what you want. Going rate is $800 maybe? Watch for problems with popping out of reverse on a worn out unit. Third, the ZF also comes in a big-block version that won't fit your engine. The big block version comes in gas and diesel gear ratios.

thanks for the information, are junk yards a good place to find one in good condition.

You might want to hunt a junkyard that specializes in trucks.
