After a major transmission replacement, the driveway will be full once again.
I posted a week or two ago about buying a new Banks billet torque converter for my '99 F350, 7.3 PS, with 4R100 transmission.
Last Wednesday, I pulled the transmission loose, and slid it back, to change the torque converter. It had been diagnosed as defective. I took out the old one and shook it, just because, and it sounded like loose silverware and marbles inside. Not good.
Decided to pull the transmission pan. Found the magnet 1/4in thick with debris, and some thin metal slivers mixed in. Instead of going any further, (I don't do automatic transmissions) I took the whole mess to my dealer, where a long time friend and transmission mechanic works.
The overdrive, or what was left of it, appeared to be the culprit, I chose a new replacement transmission instead of a rebuild. Not much more cost, but much better warranty. I don't know why the overdrive went, unless I was at fault somehow. I'm looking forward to driving it again, and not at all disappointed in the transmission failure. The truck has 85,000 miles on it, and has been tortured pulling farm and grading equipment, and horse trailers, all it's life. Less than 10% of the mileage on it was without a trailer attached, I don't think that's too bad.
In addition to the new Banks, I have the Hypertech Stage III programmer. I'm looking forward to seeing how it'll pull the John Deere skid loader and old Ford 3930 tractor now!
