Overdrive Switch not working 95 F150 - How to safely remove air bag

Dec 14, 2006 2 Replies

My 95 F150 has over 200000 miles on it and the bearings are shot in the steering column and the overdrive switch does not work. The switch itself is good. A mechanic friend told me there is probably a broken wire in the steering column. He recommended replacing the entire steering column with one from a junk yard. I'd rather repair what I have properly.

I believe I can handle the above problems, but my concern is that I don't want the air bag to go off in my face, and I don't want to set a code that I have no way to clear.

Information on how to remove and put pack the air bag as well as hints on my other issues would be sincerely appreciated.

Just disconnect the battery, then remove the screws from the back of it and unplug it. It's not an ordeal.

Disconnect the battery before you start and the airbag will be fine. Removing and installing the airbag is easy, there are four screws on the back (instrument panel side) of the steering wheel. The bag only fits one way.
