Overhead Console Display for 99 Expedition

Could anyone offer me some advice... I have a 99 Expedition, and it doesn't have the compass and thermometer display in the ceiling console. I was wondering, how hard is it to put one it. Are the power cables there, just not being used?

Also, is it hard to wire up some driving lights to the switch which seems to function for driving lights, just don't have any.

I would like to do both myself. Thanks for any help you can offer!

You can run but you can't hide, except apparently along the Afghan-istan-Pakistan border.

On my 99 Expedition, the overhead console with compass doesn't have temp display as that's on the climate control on the center display, but the overhead has the controls for the trip computer such as miles to empty, average mileage and instant gas mileage; I would think the wiring is there but there might be more to it that just installing it. The compass runs from a module mounted on the rear view mirror (mine has never worked right!).

A good alternative might be the rear view mirror that J C Whitney sells (yeah, I know). It has the compass and temp. in the mirror and is made by the same company that GM gets theirs from. About $250, I think.

Oh yeah, it is also self dimming, which is very nice.
