Ranger airbag code 25

I have a 98 Ranger blinking airbag code 25. I understand that that message indicates that there is a Pass Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Switch Fault. My question is: with this fault, is my passenger airbag activated or deactivated. When my wife goes to her part time job, I occasionally bring my daughter (in a car seat) with me if I need to run an errand, but will not bring her in the truck until I know for sure whether the airbag is active or not.

If you have a code and the light is on, your airbags are deactivated (both of them). On our 1999 Ranger when we got this code the actual problem was that the LED that illuminates when the passenger side air bag is deactivated burned out. I replaced the switch module that includes the LED, and the code was cleared. It is an easy repair. If I had been more adventurous, I would have tried just soldering in a new LED. Instead I bought the whole module (switch plus LED). The cost is around $57.82 from a dealer (ask for a passenger side air bag deactivator switch).

Thanks Ed,

That was very helpful. Is the switch acually what I put my key in to turn it off?
