1997 Buick Skylark

My 1997 Skylark has been great; however, drove a short(10 mile) trip around town today and two indicator lights lit up on the dash: CHECK ENGINE and ETS OFF. Does anyone know what the ETS OFF light means? Vehicle has 140,000 miles with no problems other than routine. Thanks.

ETS - Enhanced Traction System

Are you sure the light does not say "Check Vehicle"? Also, the ABS warning light usually comes on with this error as well. Do ou see that?

Wheel sensors can be at fault. I get this fault occasionally and it usually clears up when the dirt etc clears out by it self from the sensors.

ETS stands for Electronic Traction System. It is the traction control part of the ABS(antilock brake system). You have a code stored in either the powertrain control module(PCM) or the ABS module. When the code set, the ETS was automaticaly turned off. You cant clear codes on a 1997 car by disconnecting the battery. You have to use an OBD II scan tool. But before the codes are cleared, you need to find out what they are and if there is a problem that needs to be repaired.
