Got a New Used Seat Today

On a chance stop at a junkyard I don't frequent to often, I was able to get a near mint condition passenger side seat for my car. $50.00

I figured getting a passenger seat would of had less asstime in it than a driverside.

After looking at the 11 different 88 - 91 Bonneville's there was really only one car that had a seat worth taking. One grey 1990 had a slate grey interior like mine but the seat contours & patterns were different than the 91. The seat felt rather firm. It seemed to feel okay at first.

I went over to a maroon 91 and sat in the manual operated passenger seat and it felt great. No tears or rips, clean and soft feel to it and the recline worked fine. The driver seat though was shot. I went back and sat in the grey 90 again. The cloth now felt very rough. Then it dawned on me the seat has been hardened from getting wet & drying out getting wet etc, The passengerside window was open by about 9 inches and who knows how long its been exposed to the elements.

The maroon 91 was sealed up except for a rear door vent window broken out. Not sure if the seat color is maroon or maple red. I got to look at the piece of paper that was tucked under the seat to see if the code # is there.

The underside of the seat where the three spring bands contact the foam cushion haven't cut into the bottom at all , The bands didn't even leave a dirt mark. Maybe nobody sat in this seat or the person was 90 pounds or less!? The maroon car had 128,000 miles on it.

I took my driverseat out when I got home and bolted the new/used seat onto my powerseat track. Now I got to design & build some sort of console to go between the seat to fill up the big gap between the two seats, maybe put my old armrest on top of it.

Mileage on the other Bonnevilles were 217,000 - 206,000 - 191,000 -

151,000 - 128,000 and 129,000

good luck with the console design/build sounds like it will be a worthwhile project.

Question: Is the passenger seat the same as the driver seat?

Craig,

I had a 55/45 split bench seat. Now I have two 45's seats in the car. The passenger side seat frame is a direct bolt on to the driverside leg track or the passenger side leg track will bolt directly to the floor studs on the driver side. Bolt spacing is the same.

Only one problem is that the pasengerside seat sits closer to the lefthand door than the original driverseat. The spacing for the bolt holes in the bottom of the seat frame are not in the same spot due to the differences in seat width. Actually the part of the door panel that juts out where the seatbelt goes into touches the seat cushion.

I cover my seats with grey towels becuase I always eat & drink in the car. Its a rolling kitchen. I put my grey headrest cover on in place of the maroon one so all you can see now is the maroon backrest - adds a little contrast to the interior, plus I got maroon carpeted floor mats over the factory grey ones.

My back is happy sitting in a like new seat again !
