Anybody have any experience with this? Is it the VSS, or the head in the speedo ? I am used to the old cable...but thats a thing of the past! If the cruise control is ok, would that mean that the VSS, (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is ok? Thanks for your help.

Describe 'erratic'. What's happening with your tach?

Tach is fine....Speedo jumps to 50, than maybe 20 , then 70, etc. then it will settle down, for a while, then start again.
VSS vehicule speed sensor likely,on top of transmission.
