Stype auto gearbox crap

Just had a failure of an auto box on a 1999 Stype with 115000 miles on the clock, dealer replacement cost £3200, anyone know of cheaper fix, could have bought a mini with the cash i have spent on this piece of junk. Dealers wont touch these in part x for any other car except JAG and I don't want one of them again,

keep away from Stypes,

The transmissions in Acura TL's cost about 4,800 US, and fail just as often.

No details of engine etc. but 115K miles might not be impressive but must be into the expected lifetime range. Cheaper alternative, 1 visit an independent, 2 get it refurbished, 3 buy a gearbox from a scrap yard and a local garage can probably fit it. I personally would not be putting a new gearbox in a car with over 100K miles on the clock, who knows what will fail next.

The trans in the early S-Types was a Ford truck box forcded on the Jaguar design team by Ford idiots. It's been replaced by a ZF box that transforms the vehicles driving dynamics. Unfortunately, the Ford morons (let by Jim Padilla, current ford COO) who claimed they could save $1,000 per car with the Ford box, won the day but wrecked the car's chances in the marketplace in the process. Jaguar traded one Prince of Darkness (Lucas electrics) for another (Ford management). Sadly, the current crop of Jaguars are looking to be the best they've ever done in terms of quality, yet due to the S & X-Type fiascos no one will touch the brand. Just like Lincoln, Mercury, etc., Ford's bean counting jerks have tanked another car line.
