My radio is dead in my 1988 XJS. I plan to replace it with an aftermarket AM/FM/CD unit. What is the max Watts I can input into the factory speakers without taking foolish chances?

The speakers will start to distort terribly near max limit. When that happens ...turn it down. Bob
The factory speakers have a foam surround which has probably deteriorated already, Even though though the resonance of the driver is close to correct for the half-space environment, you can still do much better by replacing them all. A hard paper accordian edge, neodymium magnets, and large voice coil will go a lot further with any decent aftermarket unit.
