I am no Clinton admirer, but it is a part of the "European system" that students don't actually have to attend classes. All they have to do, is pass a final at the end of the semester. Some students attend classes; while some spend the semester attending rallies and bars and boning native girls, and study like mad for three weeks at the end of the term. If you fail the exam, the professor gives you a chance to make up the grade, by doing extra work. It is not like a United States university at all.

What you have left out, is that Vietnam wasn't even a legal war, unless you count the war that the United States government was waging on the young people of our generation. The war was unconscionable, but the use of conscript troops was an outrage. With a government as openly hostile and malevolent as we had back then, I found a policy of self-preservation to be the best of all the unacceptable alternatives. I am just glad that open war didn't break out here.

His 'official' government biography makes no mention of mr clinton graduating, passing, or even attending classes while at Oxford. It states, in part "... Clinton was graduated from Georgetown University and in 1968 won a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University. He received a law degree from Yale University in 1973, and entered politics in Arkansas. ..."

Actually he went to college at georgetown and somehow to the consternation of fact challenged folks managed to bag a rhodes scholarship to oxford. Not that I voted for him or am really a supporter but at least I try to avoid out and out lies for the reasons I prefer other candidates or leaders. He does blow a mean saxaphone though.

I consider "draft dodger" to be a term of respect, because the real draft dodgers went into hiding, voluntary exile, or prison for their beliefs. I was never called to serve, so I cannot be called a draft dodger. Most of the draftees in my opinion took the easy way out. They made the sacrifice of a tour of combat duty, to avoid the penalty that taking an ethical course would have demanded. Many who use the term "draft dodger" are now fifty years old or less, hence would never have been candidates for service during the Vietnam conflict, and feel intense survivor guilt over the loss of an older brother, cousin or other relative who did serve. That is their problem.

I had a legal, current draft card in my possession at all times. I think that the last one said "1-H" or something similar. This was a rating you got if you "lost" or "won" the lottery, depending on how you looked at it. There were some nut cases in my high school graduating class, who couldn't wait to become cannon fodder. In general though, I remember someone saying, that over half the males, had been admitted to one college or another. This was exemplary for our working class factory town.

College deferments were designed by the government, with the idea of producing more university educated alpha males, who could serve their country in more advanced positions, such as officer, engineer, medical doctor or president. Mr. Clinton's deferment, although you might not like it, did exactly what the system was designed to do, produce a more highly educated individual, capable of fulfilling a more advanced position in our society, and ultimately being clever enough to say, "I never had sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky". My one year deferment, which lasted until the lottery was instituted, allowed me to later complete my degree and become a software developer, eventually making a huge payment to the I.R.S.

Another deferment, which you might find more legitimate, was farm worker. My boss in the orchard was ushered out of the local recruitment office, when they found out that he was the heir to several thousand acres of apple and peach orchard. They told him, that what he was doing, was more important. Somehow, most people find this "better" or "more honorable" than Mr. Clinton's contribution.
