88 comanche p/u

That would be a great price in my neck of the woods, southern Canada if it was a 4x4. If a 2 wheel drive it would still be an ok price.

Only drawback to the 88 (I have one - 165k on the original engine) is that the manual transmissions were the Pugeot BA 10/5 - not enough beef for the I6 engine and I wound up swapping mine out for a AX15 fairly shortly after I bought it. Auto should be OK. I wouldn't look at anything but the I6 - it has enough power to get out of it's own way but I'd expect the 4-banger model to be a traffic hazard.

Pull the carpet back and look at the floor right under the parking brake. There is a depression there that will collect water and the padding under the carpet takes forever to dry. Mine was rust free - except for that one spot. I had to cut it out and patch the floor pan in that area this summer.

I paid $3500 for mine 3 years ago with 104k on the clock. It's seen numerous trips of 1200 - 1300 miles each way and has been a solid piece of transportation. Other than the know weakness of the BA 10/5

If you get it, beware of one bad characteristic which I suspect it shares with the XJ. If you hit a deep puddle the darned thing pushes the water out front and right up over the hood onto the windshield blinding you. It's the worst vehicle for that I've ever seen.

LOL, I never really thought of it but that is true, that thing does put a wall of water (or mud) on the windshield. Kinda makes things interesting for about 2 seconds when you hit a BIG puddle. It has to be a fairly large puddle though. KH

ZJ does the same thing. Skeered the carp out of me first time. Did a little experiment, put some angle aluminum down on the lower bumper and it worked to deflect the water. Too bad it looked st00pid. Been thinking about having someone film the ZJ going through a big puddle then analyzing it and fitting a deflector. But in the mean while, I just drive slower. :)

My Dad had one of those (think it was an '87) , and it was a monster. He had it for 150k or so, gave it to a friend, and I think it's still running. He did have to get a new transmission once, though, I think. It was a great truck, but the low side panels rusted out pretty badly and the metal was thin there.
