is there any way to disable the system? Mine keeps going off when I get in the vehicle. I don't really need it and if it can be disabled I would do it.
thanks

My overhead has a step but as far as I know it only switches the modes of the overhead display, I'll have to see if it can turn off the system somehow.

Stock alarm or aftermarket?
Stock alarm:
not easily. Auto arming occurs when you press the lock then close the door. disarming can be done by the keyfob or by using the key in either the driver/passenger doors or tailgate.
The following is for the 93ZJ so YMMV.
Fuse 6 (15A) provides power to the module (yours will probably be different) pulling that fuse might turn off the system.
Aftermarket:
dunno. depends on who made it.
its the stock system. I don't have the FOB since I got it used. I'm in the process of getting one. I know it shuts off from the door lock, but it sucks when I unlock the door, hop in, turn the key then the thing dies because teh system didn't disarm.
Update, just popped a new battery in there, the old one was fine in terms of voltage, but was old and very corroded. Its possible that the corrosion was interrupting the flow and the system was detecting a disconnected battery. I cleaned up the terminals and will see how it does.

Time to clean the disarm switch. Bit of a pain though, it's on the back of the key core and requires a bit of work to get to.
Any helpful info on how to do it? I assume its on the lock barrel?
netnews.comcast.net did pass the time by typing:
basically you have to take the door panel off. Watch the plastic edges they are sharp. Usually the trees (plastic pins) will be reusable. The switch, as you suspect, is on the end of the lock barrel.
On my ZJ it's easier to get the panel off if the window is all the way down.
Well I swapped the new battery in this past weekend and have not had any problems since, its only been a few days, but I think that was the problem.

A low battery can cause the alarm to false as can corroded terminals.
Glad your problem went away.
