98 ZJ Oil Pressure

Dec 11, 2005 5 Replies

Never really gets to a solid 40 psi. What to check? I'm guessing sending unit first. Anything else? TIA

Before you start replacing any parts temporarily install a mechanical gauge and see what the real pressure is.

I second that, most gauges other than mechanical are not accurate. Ford gauges on pick ups for example do not really read pressure they are an idiot gauge and make you feel like you are seeing pressure. Ford's decision was truly a monetary one and they have been doing it for over 20 years. Call me anal but I have installed mechanicals in every vehicle I own.

Thanks, I just got my lazy ass to read through all the archived msgs re: oil pressure. Will be checking sending unit and then "real" pressure. And I *am* getting more than 10psi per 1K of rpm.

I forgot to mention you should unplug and replug the sensor wiring a few times as a bit of corrosion may be affecting the connection. Use contact cleaner if you have it, WD40 will work somewhat.
