Cherokee change in 2000?

They went to distributer-less coil on plug, and there were changes to the intake manifold (smoother bends) to restore the power they lost to emissions detuning. The injectors are different also. If you are replacing an older motor you can still use your old distributer and coil, but you may need to splice in the injectors plugs and sensors. Have you considered a 4.5 L stroker?

Actually, for a change, I am not considering an engine swap, just looking at an '01 Cherokee and was wondering if there was anything to be concerned about.

The only other change was in the front axle. It was previously a high-pinon Dana 30, starting in 2000 it was a low-pinon Dana 30. If you don't know the difference, it probably won't matter.

I don't know all the difference the low pinion implies, but IIRC they're not as strong as the high pinion D30. Are there other implications as well? How much difference is there? Not that it really matters, this is going to be a daily driver / Family vehicle.

I don't belive the LP Dana 30 is any weaker than the HP Dana 30. The only difference is the pinion is lower, making it easier to damage or get caught off road. It also increases the front driveline angle. None of this is an issue if it's a family driver that won't be lifted or wheeled.
