Factory diff lock in Cherokee

I have a 96 Cherokee 4.0. Sport. Just got it. It came with a factory option, rear locking diff.

Would anyone know under what conditions this kicks in? Do you have to be in 4WD low or high? or 2WD? No manual controls for it in the truck..

Any ideas or info about this option would be geat. :-)

What you have is a limited slip diff, not a true locker. AFAIK XJ's did not come from the factory with a locker.

To be honest It will almost never help. Applying the brakes a bit while giving it some gas can get you some extra traction if one wheel is slipping. Most of the time for off road use the clutch packs heat up and the thing turns into an open diff anyhow. KH
