Grand Cherokee oil level sending unit???

It's basically a switch, cleaning the connector always works for me. If you need schematics on anything let me know. Some I have scanned.

Yep its oil level sensor, the info centre display says it is... I have physically checked the oil and its full..

You still don't know if it is the sensor or the oil level. As I stated before, filling the oil to the full mark on the dip stick is still TOO LOW for reliable oil level sensor operation. This only apples to the early '93's (like mine.) When you get the low oil message on the VIC, it can be either low oil or a sensor problem. It doesn't distinguish between them. The easy way to check is to add

Here is what the service manual says about the sensor:

"The module will test the oil sensor input immediately after ignition ON. If low oil is detected during the test OR the oil level sensor is bad, the VIC will display this message. The engine on the vehicle outline will also be illuminated. Ignition must be OFF for 1 minute before the oil is checked. If the fault is found, the message will stay on until the ignition turns OFF. Unless the ignition has been off for one minute or longer and the oil fault fixed, the fault will appear again on the next ignition ON."

There are two TSB's regarding this problem. The first one applies only to version 03 of the Vehicle Information Center (VIC). The one I have is No. 08-22-93. If the VIC displays"Oil Sensor Shorted" while in diagnostics mode, the sensor may actually be open and visa versa. The diagnostics mode is entered by depressing and holding the select and set buttons simultaneously, while turning the ignition switch on.

The second TSB, 09-16-92, is the one describing increasing the oil capacity to 5.5 quarts and using a newly calibrated dip stick. This bulletin applies to vehicles built prior to MDH 08-22-XX and equipped with a 5.2L engine and a vehicle information center.

Thanks Dick, I'll try the diagnostic mode for the vic, by looking at the dipstick it is close to being a 1/2 litre over the full mark, but I'll look again.
