Have a little faith. The last few weeks I've had two downed vehicles. Talk about frustration! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

just took it for a four hour spin around the lake. Main lights on, both rear and front windscreen wipers going full on. Heater full blast and windows open and closing as I go. Electric seat bobbing all over the place, small fridge plugged in the back power outlet, pc in the front with phone charging in the last one. Everything seems to be fine so I suppose I'll keep the POS :-) thanks again for all the help. It seems that the solution was a DECAYED GROUND WIRE
thanks again to all.
Which of the grounds was it that caused all the troubles?
Well you gave it the test that it needed. Good job there Harry. It is just that in this group we have seen a lot of stuff electrical fixed by fixing that ground. Have fun, Tomes
Will Honea did pass the time by typing:
Interesting. on my 93JZ the ground strap is actually a heavy copper wire, not a strap. Not that they didn't change back. Think I'll pull it off and check the ends for corrosion just to be safe. I'm betting he's in the salt-belt where even plastic rusts in the wintertime. :/

Wow, who'da thunk it. It's great to hear that it was somehing simple, and even better to hear that you found a mekka-naniac that you can trust.
Glad that POS is running right for you now.
Next... what can be done about that fubar nickname you're using? LOL

You should carry one of those "jump-start-in-a-box" things. I never leave home without mine. The newer ones have a 110vac outlet, that'll brew your coffee when you're camping. Greatest invention since sliced bread, as they say.

Good to hear that your XJ is fixed. It it makes you feel any better about the whole ordeal bad ground straps are a common enough cause of a whole range of problems that Mike is probably getting ready to put up a message `bot that replies automatically to every tenth new message with "Check your ground straps. They're probably rotted through."
Enjoy!
And #1 on the diagnostics needs to be: Put a jumper cables between the engine block and frame.
That was a body ground likely. Same deal, the jumper cable to the body will let you know....
Welcome to the freakin' rust belt!
