Nice work. The electric vehicle is a nice concept, but the 'no emissions' portion is not true. The JEEP doesn't have any emissions, but the coal-burning plant that produces the electricity to charge the Jeep certainly produces plenty of emissions. If we were an all solar, wind, and water country there would truely be 'no emissions'.

Interesting project, and congratulations for carrying through on it, but this Jeep shares the problem of most electric cars, range.
If I were to do that to my Jeep it would have enough range to carry me to work and that's it. I bet it wouldn't even make it there if it was necessary to use the lights, never mind the wipers and defroster.
Plus of course there would be no more road trips, and I LOVE taking my Jeep on a good road trip, and I love that wonderful 4.0 straight six.
I wonder about the possibility of a purpose built electric 4wd, probably using Li-Ion technology like the Tesla electric car. A purpose built electric Jeep with the right technology could be really simple and tough, an electric motor for each wheel, no need for transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, U joints or any of that other stuff. It could also have a little trailer that carries a compact, efficient generator that could be used to keep the batteries charged on road trips, turning the Jeep into a hybrid.
Of course Bill wouldn't think it was a real Jeep

I saw a special on the tube not long ago where they were talking about electric/fuel hybrids for the military. They evidently have some of these huge vehicles now going over 200 miles on a charge at pretty good speeds in stealth mode.
I don't remember all of it but I thought it was pretty impressive. Particularly because they were very quiet while running in electric mode.

Ya I've seen that before and actually wanna do it, but I saw where he estimates it to be $10,000 to convert his jeep. But then again I guess you save it in gas...

With gas at $2.50 a gallon and 20 MPG you can drive about 80,000 miles for that $10,000.
A conversion like that doesn't make much sense to me... your mileage may vary!
