Oil Sender Unit location 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport

The oil pressure gauge recently went to 80 one morning and has consistently stayed there. I had my oil changed to see if this would help but hasn't. The vehicle is running fine, but the pressure is at 80??? This has never happened, has always been around 40-50, then shot up to 80 and stayed. From what I have heard that the sender unit failed???? If this sounds right, where is this unit located and is it easy to replace instead of going to a dealer

Thanks....

The sending unit is adjacent to the oil filter adapter...look for a sensor with 2 wires on or near the oil filter adapter. Most likely you have a bad sensor, but to double check plug a mechanical test gauge into the port and check the pressure.

fladolphin did pass the time by typing:

But first put the sensor wire back on, it fell off. :)

the I6 it's down on the block just above the oil filter. Could be the sensor, it's easy to replace with simple hand tools and NAPA has the part.

It is easy to change, and I got one aftermarket. With the engine off and the key in the on position does it still peg? If you disconnect the sensor wire and do this again does it peg or stay at -0-. My 00 Sport sometimes pegs and will remain there for the drive cycle.I changed the sensor,it was not the cause on mine. When mine pegs I turn the key to the acc. position then off 2 or 3 times and then it works again for a while, some kind if short.
